My new Chinese-made steering pump Still has a noticeable whine to it which I find quite annoying. Does anyone know the best steering fluid to use?

Most of the generic pumps are going to have some level of noise. Use ESN-M2C-134D rated oil(amber/clear colour) only e.g., Valvoline/Penrite. The castrol(red) one some people use is not suitable.

Thanks for that. I was looking at mobile something but it's generally sold in bulk I've heard some good things about it. It's actually for tractor transmissions from memory.

If it's a similar spec to AGRIFARM UTTO MP which is a multi-use agricultural oil that's what I've used in the past without issues, but they may not do much (in terms of the oil additives used) to quieten noisy steering pumps specifically.

Mobile is something I was considering, but it's often sold in large quantities. Positive remarks have been made regarding it. It's actually for tractor gearboxes, as I seem to remember.

Avoid using universal or generic steering fluids that claim to be compatible with all vehicle types. These fluids may not meet the specific requirements of your vehicle's power steering system and could potentially cause damage or increased noise levels.
