gday
this may sound silly but have you got the axles mixed up. as the short axle will fit in the long side of the housing. but the long axle will not go all the way in the short side of the housing.. i hopes this helps.. |

I just had this problem. If you have the axle in the side you can get it into stick a wheel on it and put the wheel on the ground with some weight of the car on it.
Put the tailshaft on the diff pinion and bolt it up. Now put the car in gear or park. Make sure the front wheel are well chocked. Now put the axle in so the spline is engaged and either fit a wheel or old disc brake rotor on and try and rotate the axle and push it in. What has happened if it is the same as my problem is the spline gear drive and LSD clutch spline are out of alignment. Hope this solves your problem.

Yeh it was a pain but stick with it. If you have the centre out of the diff check how far the axle goes in on both sides.
If you find it does in about half way on the one side you cannot get it in then it is highly likely this is your problem. Now when you rotate the axle the disc brake rotor is not that big so you need to put some effort in but remember control the rotation. When the splines line up the axle will slip in like there wasnt a problem. Its not that hard just take your time and make sure your car is well chocked and supported.

<ot> Youhave you're profiles around the wrong way or are you going for the top fuel dragster look? 235/40R17 is a strange size for a falcon, as is 255/45R17. Swap the profiles around and they'd look alright??? </ot>

trust me, for anyone doing this in future, just buy a complete LSD diff disk to disk. Swapped my S/S diff for a 3.7 LSD on the weekend, complete changeonver, so much easier. disconnect brake lines, stabilisers, driveshaft and shocks and drop it out, reverse that to put it in.

if you've got the money, do it. it wouldn't have been cheap
