Hi just got myself a series one EB XR8 and added a couple of things and was wandering how far I can open up the spark plug gap.

Added the following:

9mm Queensland ignition leads, MSD Blaster coil, Champion Niridian spark plugs. Also did the thermo fan conversion and added sports panel filter.

The standard gap range is 1.2-1.4 i think... I have 1.6 on it at the moment but I was wandering if i can go more?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Trouble with going more is they wear further apart ..I doubt you'll have issues with Iridiums though...Wider gap gives you the potentual to have bigger spark but a smaller gap gives you a stronger spark..Fitting a cdi would help....

Some came out with approx 2mm gap and had issues with high rpm miss..The fix was to close gap down to 1mm

NGK recomend closing the gap 0.004" (0.1mm) for every 50 hp over stock your engine has.
I had mine iridiums gapped at 1.4 (stock gap) with no problems, but I am trying a 1.25 gap now.
I think the platinums are gapped 1.1mm stock..

On a hi performance engine without cdi the gap has to come down to .030 approx .7mm

i have taken the gap down to 1.29mm. and the fuel consumption isn't as good and there is a slight miss i think.... It also doesn't have as good throttle response now..

The champion gold plugs were stock gapped at 1.4, i think i might take them back up to that?

Ditch the iridiums, they are crap on the 5.0. Mine had a slight miss on the dyno above 4000rpm, and a change to stock plugs gapped to 1.1mm and with a good retune from Autotech, i picked up 12rwkw down low and 10 rwkw up top.
