Have just changed the dome light from the stocker with spots to the fairlane ghia jobbie. My q is how the hell is this wired in. The factory wiring loom has 3 wires, but they arent the same colour as the Fairlane loom. I have wired them up and they spots work until the engine is started, then they no longer work, very confusing, help please
Brett

Just as well you brought this up - I just bought a Fairlane Dome light from the wreckers on Thursday for $10, haven't fitted it yet. The Futura/Fairmont/Ghia lights should have yellow/green, maybe two, tied together to the vehicle loom (+12V) and blue/black wire (interior light earth through BEM for fading). The spot lights earth through the mounting screws - hence they can be used all the time. You've got them a*** about I'd say - you'll find the dome stays on all the time probably. The Fairlane one I bought has the above wires, plus a black one - this will be earth I'd say, as the Fairlane assy has a plastic adaptor that screws into the roof sheetmetal - you can put a ring crimp on the end of this and attach it to one of the mounting screws. If your wire colours don't match, just conn check and match them with the vehicle wires.

The wrecker guy was pretty busy, and I might have caught him off guard at the time, but a sale is a sale

What has happened is that you've wired the Spots into the courtesy light circuit, and its cutting out with the ignition.

I had the same issue when I did this on my ghia, but I've now fixed it.
Xyphoid (matti) sent me a piccie of the under side of the light, showing how it should be wired. I'll see if I can find the pic and post it up!

It was actually - the wiring details only were edited. Not something we need to lose sleep over though . . . . . :P :P
