I just picked up the shims from the spare parts place and they're different to what I imagined - I thought they were just going to be washers.

Are they the right things (the silver discs are the shims and the black circles are the retainer clips)?

O, and where abouts do they go in there and how do i do it? Ater that I think i'm ready to install the cam!

Yeah no probs.

When you take your rocker gear out most of the process will become immediately apparent.

Just take the lifters out (may need a little nudge from the little hole in the top of the rocker), and you will notice a shim fall out as well. Put that shim back in as well as one of the ones you bought (and with the little scores facing the way that they were before).

Now with the lifter you will see its pretty obvious too, there will be a plastic ring around it that you just pry off (if it doesnt flake off itself) and you clip the new retainers in place.

I like to sit the lifter in a bit of oil and then insert it back into the rocker arm (and if you want to be really careful tape it up so that it won't fall back out when you go to put it back on your car).

You'll see exactly how to do it as soon as you take the rocker gear out I reckon anyway.

Ford gods sake dont drop any of the lifters or shims down the oil galleries, and make sure you torque the cam sprocket bolt up properly! 8-)

to stop the lifters from falling in just get a lint free rag and plug up the 4 oil return holes on the right hand side of the camshaft....I think there's 4. After that the lifters can do what they want.

Thats how i did it.
