g'day cobbers

I switched back to regular unleaded fuel and noticed I got better economy. this is not a driving style issue as it happened before so this time when I did it I drove in a way that would usualy chew the juice.

Is this because I havn't retimed the old girl for the premium.

in the fairlane the twuk runs straight gas.

here's the question is running premium with starndard timing like running regular with 6deg retarded timing. kinda makes sense

No its not the same... Running premium fuel just allows you to advance the base timing more due to prevented pre-detonation. So running premium without advancing timing is just not using its full potential, not retarding the timing.

Cheers

Thats the difference between a car fitted with a knock sensor, and one without :)

knock knock! :P

nar the knock sensor detecks detonation
so the ecu can advance the timing untill it knocks :)

not really i get an extra 100k's when running premium in the ed and that doest have a knock sensor. with reg. i get 300 k's to a tank and with optimax i get 400+.

as I understand it the knock sensor allows the ecu to advance timing untill it detects a knock (duh!) so timing is always at optimum. my old fairlane has to go off what I tell it with timing which I havn't adjusted for premium or for the 180deg thermostat.
