hey all
ok today i was sitting behind a truck at around 60km. i then went to overtake him so i put my foot down and my revs went up to about 3000rpm or so but the car didnt go anywhere. after maybe 2 seconds it got into gear and threw me right back into the seat. it didnt sound too healthy so does anyone have any idea what the hell is with my car or had it happen to them? my car is a ed fairmont with 180 000 on the clock if thats any help. sorry for the long post Kezz

So there was no initial power increase once the foot was planted?
What happened in the time between the kickdown and the power? Totally different cars, but if i give it a boot full at ~60 it will drop to 1st n slam you back in the seat pretty bloody hard, altho it does it instantly, no gear hesitation or weird noises.. Whats the history of the gear box, ie servicing/replacement/issue?

the gearbox should be serviced every 20,000 from new to ensure it stays in top condit.
most people dont even look at it untill 80-100k tho. At your kms, id think you would have had a rebuild with no services, count yourself very lucky n go easy on the poor thing hehe.

that same thing is happening to my mums EL wagon, your transmission is unhealthy, get it serviced and problem fixed asap, othwise it will end up like the old girls and you'll need to recon the gearbox or replace it.

My eb II has 233 000ks on the clock. Still original auto and I have not serviced it in the last 33 thousand. So no it's not true that they crap themselves at 200 000km's

For a standard service all they do is change the oil and put a new filter in and possibly a transmission sump gasket. That all works out to be between 90 and 130 bucks depending on where you go. If theres probs with the box then it will cost you. Tip Do not go to wollongong automatics. I'm in a spot of bother with them at the moment.

And adjustment of the bands

I don't think they adjust the bands in the 4 speed BTR's. I've never had them adjusted in the cab. I know that in the old 3 speed hydraulic boxes you need to get the bands adjusted.
