I have a neighbor who claims that you can retro-fit an EF Steering Wheel onto an ED. He also 'heard' that the EF Cruise switches work with no differences to the ED Standard ones. Is this true? If not, what other aftermarket options can be put onto the ED to change the Steering Wheel? Thanks for your help.

I dont know about the steering wheel switches : They work on a similar principle although the "clockspring" (yes, I know its a clockspring on an EB-D) is different.
To do it you would most likely need to change over the entire steering column for one from an EF/L. Im not sure just how much of it you would need. Would be interesting to know if the EB-D cruise control will work with the step down buttons on the EF cruise wheel - I like that feature. Mind you I like my EB GT Wheel better Nigel |

I thought that crusie control worked off the BEM and the BEM was different in each series ie EA - EB - ED etc

The steering wheel will not fit. The columns are different. The EF swithces are not compatible with the EB/D cruise and (of this I am not sure) the combination switch on the EF/L is not compatible with the ED BEM!

On the E series the Steering shaft is splined and on the EF/EL it is not.

The EB cruise has nothing to do with the BEM. It runs seperately using a cruise speed control computer!

The steering wheel will not fit. The EF/EL cruise buttons may work if you change the resistances used to get the necessary functions. I believe that they are different in ef/el to ea/ed. I am thinking of using them on an after market wheel.

you also have the airbag issues with the EF/EL wheels, which the EA-ED's don't have! you can't just replace a horn-pad w/ an airbag!

to fit the EF steering wheel, you need the EF steering column.
to fit the EF steering column, you need the EF Steering Rack to fit the EF steering rack, you need the EF k-frame. i know someone whos done it to an NC V8 Fairlane. but yeah, a lot of work for a steering wheel. you'll need to compare the button resistances etc to determine if they'll work. and also the horn related wiring.
