The last couple of days my trans has been playing up on me.
Cold morning: Starts fine, changes fine, but after about 2 minutes it goes into limp mode. Stop car, restart drives for about 40 seconds and repeats. I have to do this about 10 times before it stops doing it. Leave it parked for a few hours, start car, goes into limp mode after about 40 seconds. Have to restart 3 or 4 times before it behaves. Any ideas what might be wrong? If it is a stuffed trans I will probably put the car off the road indefinately because I dont have the money to replace it at present.

This probably won't help much but... I was working on my car with the music on and got a flat battery and it cracked the s**t and I only had 3rd, I ended up disconnecting the battery for 30 mins then that fixed my issue. Any trans place should be able to give you a quote, might just be a simple fix.

A mate of mine had a similar problem, turned out to be a poor connection at a battery terminal.

you could do the diagnostic test and see what codes you get

The diagnostic test is done against the ECU and doesn't involve driving or even starting the car. If you feel confident in performing it yourself you can get a lot of information from the catch codes. Could also save you getting ripped off by a repairer telling you the problem is a lot worse than it actually is. (eg. could be a faulty sensor and they tell you there was a mechanical failure requiring loads more $$$ spent) Otherwise you can pay someone to do it for you. Take a look in the TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS section of this site, then u can decide which way you want to go.
