I have been thinking about buying an XH V8 Ute. (At this point in time just summing up whether i should or not). I was wondering if anyone out there owns one and can give me some pros and cons. Are they 2 or 3 seaters? Also, what would i expect to pay for one in reasonable condition (i am considering anything from base model to XR8). Thanks.

only 2 models, XH-V8S and XH-XR8, both 2 seaters, and the V8S is only available in auto......
price-wise, have a look around on www.carsales.com.au

Cant seem to find many of the V8's. Heaps of 6's though and a lot of which are 5 speeds. What do you think the best option (for longevity and strength) be : The 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto (maybe shift-kitted)?? I have had the 5 speed in my XR8 rebuilt and it cost a bloody fortune and was still factory spec.

unless you find one thats been converted to a manual, you wont find a manual XH-V8S ute
personally i'd go for a manual, and unless you abuse them, you wont have any problems

Auto's have a higher towing capacity than manuals jo it really depends why you want the car. The V8S ute is good, however don't expect it to go better than an I6 unless you are going to modify it.

only reason the auto's have a higher towing capacity is cos the manuals have a pretty pissweak clutch, fine for ordinaty driving, but if you're hauling a load or towing, it's pushed close to its limit

you could expect to pay 17 - 22g for an XH XR8. There was an XHS for sale in the trader a while back for bout 15 i think. I was thinking bout one before i got my EB

I'm not going to disagree with you about the clutch however the main reason the auto has a higher towing capacity is because there is less stress on the drivetrain. With an auto there is nothing physical between the gear box and engine like there is in a manual. All in all things are much less likley to break in an auto, even if you put a beefy cluch in the manual something else will be stressed and possibly break.
