Sorry if this has been talked about before,

I was wondering what steps are involved in checking to see if your car has been chipped when the previous owner of your car says "oh its been chipped"...

I'm taking it to Dyno Tune they said that they will give me a print out for $70 or a print out and tuned for $160

What about taking the front left panel under the glove box? What does a chip look like? And would it say the manufacturer on there...

I can see people slappin their foreheads in disbelief, but I have to start somewhere on these forums !!! hah

Thanks

Yeah, just remove the passenger side kick panel to expose the EEC. The chips sit in the J3 port which is located on the bottom edge. Normally there is just a black cap over the port, if it has been chipped you will see the chip itself, normally a circuit board about 3cmx8cm. The late model chiptorque chips have a nice branded cover on them so they are easy to identify, otherwise other manufacturers often have a sticker with the brand and what type of programming the chip has.

Also if the seller is claiming it made xxx more power with the chip. Request the before and after dyno printouts.

I assume that $160 isnt to tune the chip...
Short of doing that, what can be actually tuned on a falcon on a non chipped falcon ??

Not much, just base timing and idle. Most chips cannot be retuned either.

be careful not to get conned here.

A dyno run and printout with rwkw and A/f ratios is worth $70 but don't bother with the tuning. All these guys can tune is the dyno not the car!
