I have found a loose rectangular black tank just in front of the passenger side front wheel (in the area of what looks like ABS brake mechanism) on an NF Fairlane Ghia. I am reparing this corner after a Kangaroo stike which broke the pass side lights and pushed in the guard.
I cannot find anywhere obvious where this thing was mounted. It is 200mm long, 110mm wide and 60mm deep with three black lines (look like fuel or vacuum lines)coming out of it. One of the black lines goes through an electic selonoid and that line has broken off at the selonoid. It also has a loose cap on the end about the size of a plastic milk bottle top that appears as though it might be a breather. Anyone know what it is? Where should it be mounted? Will it cause a problem if the selonoid pipe is left broken? Question My guess is a fuel vapour canister which is why I put the question on this forum, but I could be very wrong. Thanks avro |

Thanks guys, I thought it was the canister but was not sure. Anyone know where its supposed to be mounted, cannot find any obvious spot for it???.
This is a greast site. Also found the FTG wreckers good, thats where I got the replacement headlight. Thanks avro |

Yeah, thats the CC alright.
Pull the indicator out and you can see the bracket it mounts to. Mine fell out as well!!

Hey, I had to replace mine the other week, looks like the car was in an accident before I brought it.
If youve dislodged it from hitting it, make sure you check it for cracks/splits, mine managed to drop all the charcoal in it, dont know if it makes much of a difference, but its obviously there for a reason.

yahuh - it is there for emission control ... which no doubt would affect your ECU if it were to fail...

Ahh right and wrong..
The canister purge valve is operated by the ECU but it takes no inputs from it, a vacuum leak in the system might cause bad idling but it's mainly there to vent fuel tank vapours and satisfy EPA reg's. For a better explanation of it I attached Ford's description..
