Hi I am seriously considering turbing my xg 4.0 ltr ute. I need something very streetable as I use it on a daily basis, so I do not need anything too extreme. So I think that in the short term I would not need anything over 200rwkw, so with that in mind can any one recommend me a setup.
I have seen on ebay the Snort kits I was wondering whether anyone knows if they have a intermediate turbo kit to run up to the power I am after intially? As the only kits I have seen are like stage 3 & 4 kits which I think would be more suited to racing conditions? Or is it best to get one of these setups & just run it on low boost? Would I still need to invest in FMIC & ECU? if I was to get these kits but only run 8psi? ANy advice would be healpfull. Cheers |

hope your ready for some sledging mate... thats what most of the replies will be...
anyway umm the snort performance kits are about the best value for money you will buy and the stage 3 & 4 kits will be fine infact they will mean that you can run less boost and still get the power you want as opposed to if you were to run a log type manifold regardless of what boost you are running i suggest a FMIC its just better for your car, simple fact. 8 PSI is probably too much to run with out a cooler you will need atleast a 2.5" zaust and thats probs a little small... you will need at the very least a rising rate fuel pressure reg. but for $1400 you can get a wolf 3D ECU which would be s**t better!!! if you dont want an intercooler hanging outa the front of your ute than i suggest using a water injection kit (wouldnt mind one myself) read CHEF's turbo DIY thread for a more detailed answer cheers |

becuase there is a very big writeup (http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12309
about this already, YES, you will need a FMIC and an aftermarket ECU to get the best outa the setup.

Im running the Snort stage 4 kit on my car and yes its perfect for what you want because mine is an everyday driver also and Im happy with the result. Speak to Geoff and he may include a rising rate reg with the setup (he did for me). And as spacky said you will need an aftermarket ecu. The rising rate reg supplied is ok but the engine runs way too rich which will throw your fuel economy out the window. Dont waste your time unless you intend on intercooling though as the limited boost you could run would mean youd get more bang for buck going na.

Yeah if your just after 200wks then you might be better off building up a NA motor... alot less hassle

Even to do it all yourself properly is going to cost at least $4000 on the stock motor.
The only reason IMO that the motor dies (apart from wear or done wrong) is a bad tune. I have seen 2 people get 300rwhp out of stock motors. The turbo setup will be more driveable. |
