Howdy,
I've been finding water under my car now and again and can't seem to find where its from - well, with a trusty torch I found it - it seems to be dripping from a pipe (not a hose, a solid pipe, about 3/4 diam) going to the motor just under the power steering pump. Is this common and/or eas to repair? Is it just a seal or what? Thanks, M |

ok i'm guess a bit here coz you haven't said what car you have. Is it the pipe which is also above the alternator. That's your heater pipe and yeah they do tend to corrode a bit. I had to replace my water pump and o-ring to fix that. Not hard.

Sorry, its an AU Forte 6 cyl. Funny question, but why would one need to change the water pump? Isn't that on the opposite side at the top? Ta |

yes thats the 1 happy runs from the water pump to around the back of the block,
could be the oring seal that has gone so u might as well replace the water pipe as happy said while u are there easy job.

Oops, its obvious I'm a learner in all things mechanical - I just looked at the workshop manual and yes, it looks like its where the pipe connects into the water pump.
So how does the pipe connect in? It looks like it just sits in the water pump, or is there a screw connector there somewhere? So do you think I would need to replace the pipe, pump and gasket (ie gasket where the pipe connects to the pump). I assume the appropriate gaskets come with the pipe or pump? |

I replaced my water pump because the housing the heater pipe went into corroded like I said. I happens and I didn't want water dripping onto my alt and f**k it up. The water pipe just pushes in with the oil ring sealing it.

there is actaully 2 steel heater pipes, one from water pump to rear of motor and the other from thermostat to rear of motor.

i had the same prob in my ef... i just got a new o ring for it
