Well, me air con is giving me some greif. I took it to the air con peoples a few weeks ago and they re gassed it with some dye. two weeks later it was still fine but they ran a black light over it and said there was a trace of dye coming from the cabin.
I whacked the heater on one day and then back to the cold, and it seemed to lose some gas and within a couple more days it was just pumping out room temp air. Basically, i know the leak is proly coming from up under the dash, and i want to have a poke around to se if i can work out where it is coming from exactly. So... now my question... what do i have to pull off to *see* the air con stuff under the dash, i am not sure where it is. And any suggestions as to what it may be would be appreciated too |

look at heater and aircon box description in the interior mod forum... dont know how to post the link here, if someone else can... DO IT!

There is really only the air con evaporator in the cabin, and of course the pipes leading to and away from it.
If as you say you have a leak in the cabin it is most likely coming from the evaporator.You will find the evaporator inside the heater box, after you remove the dash.

How much of the dash do i have to take out to find the evaporator? just the glove box? the entire crash pad?
Err.. i'll have a poke around to see what i can find on the heater box description... |

If you suspect the leak is coming from your evaporator i suggest you take your car back to the air-con specialist and get them to look for the leak. Most likely all of the gas has leaked out if you have no cooling effect at all, and air has gotten in. This is a bad thing, the air can increase head pressures in your compressor and screw it right up....so if i were you i wouldn't turn it on.

most ac systems have a high and low switch so to not damage the compressor when pressures get to high or low

Thanks, but it is off anyways. May as well save some fuel while i can Thanks for suggestions. like i said. will save pennies for while then see what i can do |

check the tx valve n evaporater.... the leak could come from old o rings too but i spose they changed em when the did the re-gas......

No they didnt do the o rings when they did the re gas. I was watching while they did it. We knew the system was leaking from somewhere, (suspected foul play by mechanical workshop... turns out no) so they just re filled it and put in the dye. |
