Hi all, just bought a EL xr6 due to needing the room for all the baby crap that accompanies my newborn son. It has done 248,000km but is in really good condition. The only problems I could see with it were a rough idle, a coolant leak and a power steering leak. I have fixed the idle problem with new HT leads(wouldn't you like to ring the neck of the idiot who put the distributor under the inlet manifold? Imagine if it had contact breakers!!!) But the leaks are a bit more concerning.
Leak 1 is coolant from a metal pipe that appears to go into the back of the water pump just by where the lower radiator rubber hose attaches to the water pump below the power steering pump. I am not sure what holds it in place. Is there a seal in there? Leak 2 is power steering fluid from the high pressure line where it attaches to the pump. The line appears a bit floppy but it is tightened up as much as it will go. Is there a seal in there that can be replaced or do I need a whole new line back to the rack? Thanks for any help. |
