i dont have the abillity, knowledge or tools to burn chips and the tailgate release sounds good. I thought that the tailgate release would be a mechanical lever connected to a cable. anyways does any one have a pic of the switch in question? It would be much appreciated.

Just grab one from an EB/D wagon at the wreckers . . .
Check it first though - I suspect it may be spring loaded - not what you want. Otherwise, you may need to settle with a switch from d**k Smith's, etc, as I don't think existing demist/washer switches suit what you want.

you dont specifically need an on/on (changeover) swith, just use a conventional on/off switch and hook it up to a standard changeover relay with both NO and NC contacts

Tailgate is electric solenoid driven. Switch is spring loaded, however it may be possible to open the switch and remove the spring. Another switch you could try is the semi-auto electric antenna switch for a EA-ED

The semi-auto antenna was a genuine aftermarket kit for the gli's & S packs. The switch goes in the blank plate above the handbrake. the switch is ON-OFF-ON i believe it is spring return though.

Use a relay and any on/off switch.
