Run the skinny pipe to the turbo or supercharger I presume? Why a skinny pipe, you'd be wanting about 3" diamter.

Maybe he means skinny is 3in compared to the width of the funnel... It will work, Ive seen plenty of race cars with massive scoops and tunnels in the front. Not really needed on a road car though...

This conjures up an hysterically funny mental picture for me.
I think he's actually talking bout a kind of ram-air system, in which case it's been tried (although not on this scale that I know of), and even at high speed, there still isn't enough air being forced in to provide positive pressure.

If you want to know if it will work measure the pressure as you drive at the place where you want to put the scoop. -This can be done with a bit of water, a hose and a coke bottle if you want. (see how much the water in the coke bottle gets pushed up the pipe in the middle of the coke bottle = inches of water!)

The problem you will find is that there might not be much pressure there (maybe 0.25 psi max), it will only work well at high speed and the bigger the scoop the bigger the drag on the car....

But give it a go, you don't need to go so massive with the scoop to get a good effect.
