Ok I got coolant leaking from somewhere. At first I thought I was a thermostat housing problem so we rplaced that. But now i think its the most frontward hose leading to the thermostat housing.
3 Things: 1) Where does this hose go? Im pretty sure its just running to the overflow bottle. 2) Where can I get one ie is it specially made from Ford or can I go to Repco and get one? 3) If the hose isnt cracked and leaking, what else could it be? I have checked the connection on the clamp securing the hose to the thermostat housing and it seems tight, so where else could I be losing coolant? Its afair bit Im losing as well. |

i'm losing coolant somewhere from the passenger side of the car, but only when it's been driven for a while and you park it. when it was last serviced, they did a pressure test and couldn't fault it. no idea what it is!

it seems to be coming from the front - i suspect the bottom radiator hose, but i can't get under there to have a good look. pretty sure it's not head gasket - oil level's fine and wouldn't it leak all the time? i'm only a 5 minute trip from home to work so it only just gets up to temp and doesn't leak then, which makes me think it's a hose. as the heat builds up the pressure increases(???) and the hose starts to leak. that's my guess anyway! i just have to top it up once a month.

its probably your hose from thermostat housing to the overflow tank running over the radiator.
to fix this i went thru 2 new hoses and in the end just put a little gasket maker on the housing before slipping the hose on and clamping it. hope this helps.

The small hose from the top of the thermostat housing leads back to the expansion tank (overflow bottle) its primary function is to allow any air from the water jacket to return to the bottle where it is safe. It is just a standard hose that you can by by the metre, not sure what size. Last time mine leaked I just trimmed a little of the end as it was too long anyway.
