not sure, but id say that means pulling the engine out and apart. (nice and expensive) How do you know theres play in it, can you hear it, or is the balancer wobling about?
i spsode that means its time for a performance rebuild hey???

3-5mm play on the crank???
Not hard if you have the tools (and have some idea as to what your doing), but if your replacing the crank bearings you may as well do the rod bearings as well as the rings. No point stopping there so do the timing gear and oil pump, list goes on...

There were a batch of cranks that were soft and wore quicker than the bearing material. I replaced my whole motor recently because of this issue even though the bore still showed the original hone marks.

And if I may just add, unless your radiator has had nice green stuff in it all its life pop in some nice new welsh plugs too...

Assuming it is an Auto then it will go untill the timing chain starts to wear a hole in the timing case, so if you plan a motor change then keep driving it until its convenient to change it.

I am in the middle of doing mine now...albeit in a panny. All parts from Bursons; good prices. That's rings, BE & Main bearings, gaskets & seals, oils, filter etc....and welch plugs...and water pump...and pulley bearings...and a/c belt. etc etc etc.
Engine has to come out.
