Doubt it since my Futura Trip Computer dims and it only has a mid series BEM im sure. THe dimming of the interior lights is controlled by the BEM (mates GLis dont have that feature)

Yeah ya right I was looking at the situation from a Fairlane point of view as they're the sections in the manual I head for..

this is the info from the tutorial that i am looking at:
· Pin 1. Instrument Cluster Data Line - This line feeds the Trip computer information regarding Vehicle Speed, Fuel Level, and other information. This Line also "Wakes Up" the Trip Computer when the Ignition is switched to "Acc"· Pin 6. Park Lamp Signal - This signal is a Positive Voltage, (Same wire that is used for the Vehicle Park Lamps). It is used to Illuminate the Buttons, and the side Mode readings on the Trip Computer.· Pin 7. Park Lamp Dimmer - This signal is a Negative Voltage signal, and is taken from the Instrument Cluster Illumination Dimmer Switch/BEM according to this, pin 7 should make it dim. i have wired it as the tutorial says, to the demist button where it says to wire it to. BUT i thought that it wouldnt have the right wiring since its not a lcd and it doesnt dim when you turn the lights on, it turns ON when you turn the lights on. anyway, it doesnt really matter, just one of those niggly little problems that i hate. Where does pin 6 wires run to to get it to light up?
I had a clock a) do the buttons light up on a clock and b) is the pin6 wire the same? |

From what I can remember the dimming signal is a PWM (Pulse width modulation) signal from the BCM not a direct voltage. This is on pin 5 LCD dimming signal.
Pin 7 does something else .It pulses the lamp and there for dimms it. This is a preset signal for a preset brightness. Depends on which BcM you have. I have only got a mid and so I used a PWM kit from Jaycar and all is well. Email me with your email address and I will send circuit diagram to u as its to big to add as an attachment

clock info::
· Pin 1 No Connection· Pin 2 (Red / Dark Green) Clock Ignition Power· Pin 3 (Yellow/Black) - Battery Positive Power· Pin 4 (Black) - Ground (earth)· Pin 5 (White) LCD Dimmer Signal· Pin 6 No Connection· Pin 7 No Connection· Pin 8 No Connection Trip Computer Plug Pin outs · Pin 1 (No Colour) - Instrument Cluster Data Wire (Signal) - Used only by the Trip Computer · Pin 2 (White) - !!!! Not Required for the Trip Computer therefore, CUT IF INSTALLING A TRIP COMPUTER !!!! · Pin 3 (Yellow/Black) - Battery Positive Power · Pin 4 (Black) - Ground (earth) · Pin 5 (Black / White) - LCD Dimmer Signal · Pin 6 (Brown) Park Lamps Signal · Pin 7 (Dark Blue / Red) Park Lamps Dimmer Signal · Pin 8 (NC) No Connection so there ya go. i have installed the pins 6 and 7. so it appears that 6 is for when the lights are on, and 7 is for when the dash lights are dimmed with the dimmer switch near the headlight switch. that all works good. but the lcd thing i havnt done. can i just wire it to something else? hmm... dont have auto air con yet... maybe some wire from the radio? cos that one dimms too. might have to go the jaycar route. email address is mailto:shaymcc76@hotmail.com cheers guys. oh, just found this in another tutorial. i reckon this clears it all up! thanks guys The LCD Illumination Dimmer Line (- PWM Power) for the Climate Control Module (Pin12 Lower COnnector - Black/White) can be obtained from the Clock Wiring Connector (Pin 5, White coloured Line) shay |
