F*ck, I am SOOO sick of reading things that sound simple, yet when it comes down to it, there are tricks and problems that the fantastic manual/tech documents don't tell you.
Like removing the head unit from the AU without the special tool. (base model forte) Can't get the prick out using the wire in the hole trick, no matter how much I god damn swear and yell. Looking at the technical documents here on Fordmods, it mentions taking the ashtray out, removing the 2 screws (done that) and unclip the 'Centre console shroud' from the instrument panel which will show the torx screws to remove the bracket...... What exactly unclips from where? I'm under the impression the whole 'cover' around the radio and aircon dials pulls off does it after those 2 screws are taken out? Cause it friggin aint budging for me. I bought a cheap Panasonic MP3/CD head unit from super crap auto (bargain at $179) and want to stick it in NOW!!! I broke my 1 week old $500 glasses the other day, now can't get this done - Please, please please help me before I jump off a cliff..... I'm slightly p****d off with the world. Only you can help. |

insted of using wire put 4 nails in the holes ( that are almose the sman size as the hole ) then put your fingers in the tape slot and give it a pull they are normly a bit tight to get out

Hi mate,
Just caught me, I was on the edge of the cliff...... I will try that, however the coat hanger wire I was using was from 'real' metal coat hangers, not the thin ones and was pretty much a good fit - maybe the nails with the tapered ends might do something different.... Will let you know how I go soon.... |

Found nails that were a perfect snug fit - no luck. Seemed to wiggle a bit more when they were in, but no amount of pulling will get it out so it still seems it is holding somewhere....

how far are they pushed in ? they should go in about 20 30 mm
just keep trying i know some can be so tight but it's only 4 clips tha holds them in ( the nails disengage these clips ) |

Thanks guys for your suggestions. A 2nd pair of hands might be of use on the weekend so I'll make the misses useful and see how I go.
Thanks again. |

Well, no luck, it seems the clips on one side are stuffed (were stuffed). So I took it to a car audio place who stuffed around with screwdrivers and a knife (can't beat the trusty knife) and forced it out. No wonder I had no chance!!!
If it doesn't move, belt it. |

The new Panasonic CD/MP3 head unit is in & working. (Also has remote control).
I must say, a couple of CD's I played sound fantastic, even with the standard speakers - it makes me wonder why so many people spend a fortune on expensive audio stuff....... |

My misses boobs are tonnes bigger than that, bit like Vesnas from BB, but without the fat content.
