i was having a quick look at my engine bay when i noticed
two fans sitting behind the radiator. im 99% sure my radiator is
not the stock factory one. is it normal for the ed to have those
twin fans or has it been modified?

thanks

Kezz

The ED had the engine driven fan driven off of the water pump. The ef and els had thermo fans and will fit into the ed. The stock radiator doesnt have mounting points, but if its been replaced in the last few years, chances are you recieved an EF/EL radiator which includes the mounting points. After that, its almost a straight bolt up minus the wiring. A set of relays and some wiring will get them up and running fine though. So yeah, not standard :D yet quite common to happen

The thermo fans? They arent normally on, one comes on with aircon, and both when the motor gets a bit warm i think? If theyre both going when you start it up, chances are theyve just been wired stright in! Dodgy stuff :D It will work fine, but its unnecessary

Not as much as the clutch fan. The alternator doesn't notice the electric fans once they're on, only for a second when they start up. I've just put a set in my EA and am very happy not to have the power sucking, noisy, dust creating (I have a long dirt driveway) clutch fan . The noise they make is nothing compared to the clutch fan. They hardly ever have to come on, only now and then around town.

yeah im not saying that the clutch fan is better, i was just saying that they do use up alternator output.
i got thermos on my xe ute, wouldn't ever go back to a clutch fan.
