Hey guys

Just wondering if anyone can tell me how much the fuel economy will change if I swap the rear axle on my EF Falcon GLi for an XR6 rear axle?
Am I gonna get better acceleration out of this? It just seems the gear timing is letting me down a bit with the 5-speed manual

I'm about to do the same on my EL.

...a normal falcon 6cyl diff has a lower ratio than the xr6....3:08 vs 3:63 I think so yeah take off should be notably different n u shudnt be in 1st gear very long!

You will probably use about .5l more per 100km. I still get 8.2l/100km on the freeway in my EL Ghia (now manual), so its not that bad for the extra go.

BTW, 1st with a 3.45 will see you about 60km/h banging the redline.

For a manual. For autos a 3.45 and 1st will get you to 86.

Yes for a manual. I thought the topic was concerning manuals, so I posted as such.

wasn't pickin gon you, just adding, for anyone with an auto reading. And face it, the vast majority of EF/ELs are gonna be autos.

Yeah cheers, If its not that bad.
My mate was telling me that I wouldn't have as good cruising speed coz it would be working on higher revs say when highway or freeway driving. Possibly thinking of six-speed gearbox but would be costly

In an auto, my 100km/h cruising rpm is about 2050.

Going to a manual upped that to about 2150. Not much more, just makes cruising a little more noisier. But fuel economy was unchanged, perhaps a little better.

Interesting how gearing works, because of the gearing the engine isn't working as hard, so therefore the ECU adds less fuel, even though RPMs are up.

Should also be a smoother ride under cruise control too. Again because the RPMs are already there, a downshift for a hill won't be needed as often.
