Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this topic. But isn't an aftermarket ECU able to control all timing? In this case wouldn't it be cheaper/better to run an aftermarket ECU so it control fuel & spark?
Cheers

The MSD BTM is a band-aid to pull x degrees ignition timing for each pound boost. It's not a standalone ignition system.
It is cheap, and it works OK. Heaps for sale on Corral as they come with cheap low-spec blower kits, and people sell them off once they get a chip tuned. There is a dedicated ignition (only) computer for $US60 that uses Ford EDIS components, MegaJolt Lite http://picasso.org/mjlj/. Sounds pretty cool. |

the MSD 6BTM is basic but many people use it with good results, it is overpriced tho considering its lack of adjustment. Any MS stuff will be good and very cheap. Plenty of support too. MSD Digital 7 is another alternative but very expensive, it has more features than both but a lot you wont use.
Another alternative is to get a dizzy built using a vac advance module to act as a retard function under boost, kinda like the BTM but not user adjustable, and no rev limiter. I have reserched the same as what you are asking and the MSD digital 7 programmable is the ducks nuts, but too expensive for most. The BTM is rugged(ie basic) but effective none the less. The Megasquirt based stuff is good but I am not sure if you still need an ignition box to fire the coil?? I was considering using a fuel inj ECU to control the ignition and also datalog stuff but It would have required a seperate ign box anyway, same as with MS. The new ign only wasn't avail back then but the MS used with megasquirt 'n' spark would have required a MSD 6al or similar anyway, So I just went with the programmable MSD. |

once again my lack of information has caused another confusion
i have an XF falcon with a 250 X-Flow on lpg turbo running the carbi dizzy and EST the MSD 5462 BTM will work in conjunction with this and has a spark amplifier in it... i had thought about a recurve dizzy or vacuum advance and modify but yer i wanted to know if there were any other companies with specific models that do the same as the MSD 5462 BTM im guessing there may not be but thanks everyone for your help imn sure your posts will have helped others too. cheers |

Guess I wasn't lacking.. lol.
In that case, The jaycar one, or MegaJolt will be your best options. Cheers
