sounds like you're shorting the wire for the backlighting in the original HU. (which of course only becomes active when the headights/parkers are turned on).

Don't ask me what wire it is, cause I can't find my Gregories manual atm.

datamine is right. Sounds like the backlight wire has been used for power.

buy a multimeter, circuit tester ( even a cheap one that has a point on one end and a festoon globe in it ) earth one end and find a power wire that has power when you want the stereo to be on ( all the time , at ACC key setting only etc) leave it connected and try all of your electrics, lights, heater, ciggie lighter, A/C. try it with the car running, ACC, car off.

and be sure the radio has i single earth, don't share it with something else.

hope it helps.

firstly what car do you have. the reason some cars do this is beacause the old tape/cd players have lights in them that go on when the headlights go on. had that problem in my laser. all i did was run a new power wire straight from the battery.

My guess is that you have managed to run the earth off the illumination wire, cause what you are describing was exactly what I did in my EF.

Yes exactly what Pollux said, have managed to run the earth off the illumination wire, i had the same problem in my EL Fairmont, but was solved beacause of this, so this would be your best bet on the problem.

cheers

Sounds like it.

On the upside at least you have now found the illumination wire so you wont have a mega bright headunit at night...
