If it's the case that the XR's don't have it because of the vents, then why don't the XH XR's have it. They don't have vents??????

Just a guess, maybe the Xr's don't have it so the engine is heard more. Where as Ford are likely to believe Gli's and Fairmont buyers would prefer a quieter car.

my futura had it but it was all ripped and stuff so i took it off... havent noticed much... maybe a little more engine noise coming through

its designed so if there ever is a fire under the hood the flames dont come out from under it and burn the windscreen and or the driver as well the xr's dont have it cause they have extra vents used to cool the engine down and if there eva was a fire the air comin threw the vents will extinguish it

That kinda doesn't really make sense does it now?

How can that stuff stop a fire coming out onto your windscreen?

P.S my xr does have the linin under the bonnet...
P.P.S fire does need air to survive, but sounded believable!
