Incorect timing can create alot of heat through the turbo. Mines fine with the sheild and wrapping but it used to get alot hotter befor I adjusted the timing

what about a heat bag, then even a heat shield?

Heat shield is best, bags apparently heat up the core too much and can also cause the ex housing to crack over time. A shield will still allow air to flow down and away from the core, a bag will hold it in

YES ceramic coating is cheaper if you take turbine housing off yourself and some light shielding in critical places..Coating dump pipe will help too..In my case unless wires etc are actually touching...They don't burn....

only thing Ive melted so far is the plug for the O2 sensor... its melted into one whole blob and wont come apart now hehe

Chef, your right about the engine timing making a huge difference in turbo temperate, before I got mine turned at Rank rotary, just cruseing around for 10 minutes off boost would result in my turbo glowing red.
Now I can cruse for hours without the turbo glowing.. I also get another 200 litres of fuel out of a tank.. |

Yeah makes a huge difference hey... also a too small exhaust housing will heat up quickly too
