i currently have a head in the shop getting a port job done and was wondering if it is worhwhile getting a bit shaved off it to increase the compression?
is there any gains to be had ? it will be getting tuned to run on bp ultimate thanks jake |

is there any general rule of thumb ,say so many thou off the head will increase the compression by x amount? thanks jake |

umm ther is a general rule i think f**k if ic an remember it
ask your head shop how much and tell them it will be tuned for ultimate etc and they should be able to advise you on how much to increase it ohh you can use a thin headgasket as well to help bump up the compression

The last thing you want is a motor that pings or detonates because a bit too much was accidentally taken off the head. Best to acurately measure everything out, CC the chambers, calculate the piston deck heights, head gasket volume etc and then from there work out how much is needed to take off the head for a given comp ratio. Unless you've got the tools and knowhow it's best left to the professionals. And since you've already got your head at a shop being worked on they would be able to advise you how far you can safely up the compression and do the work for you
