Got an EL 6 cyl fairmont that i've done a manual conversion on late last year.
Last night cruise control died. The "CRUISE" lamp lights up when you turn it on but hit Set and cruise control wont take over. Any common problems that can cause cruise to not work? All I can think of is the resistor that I put under the car on the old auto trans loom to tell the ECU that its in Drive may have come away. Does cruise disengage if the auto is not in drive? Just looking for advice before putting the car up on chassis stands and faultfinding... Cheers |

two things come to mind,
Brake light switch, Brake pressure switch. Quote: Does cruise disengage if the auto is not in drive?
No, if I drop mine into neutral, cruise will rev the crap out of the engine trying to make speed.

do a search you slack-a*** ... lol nah man Ford brought out a heavier brake switch specifically to put in taxi's. You can get them instead of the regular one and they last years longer. Coventrys had them for about $26 last time I got mine about.. ahh gee, 6 years ago? been a while...

I rang a bunch of Ford spare parts departments about this "heavy duty" switch when mine failed earlier this year and they all said "Huh?" I ended up putting in the regular $10 "Nice" brand aftermarket part.
This is why I was hoping for specifics as Ford claim no knowledge of "heavy duty" switches.

It was 5:15pm when I diagnosed the fault, rang Ford, they had one in stock so I drove 5 mins to Ford to buy one. I would have thought it would take me 40 or so hours by car to get to Perth to save a few dollars....?? |
