Looking at purchasing an AU TE50 Motor and transnmission to refresh the old EB Fairmont, would appreciate any advice "Other than Don't Do IT" from anyone whom may have been down similar path.
Reason I need to incorporate the TE50 Steering wheel is the triptronic shift controls for the transmission. (Not just the good looks of the wheel)
I have accepted that the cruise control on the existing steering wheel will become dash mounted or I may have to design and engineer a couple of integrated switches into the EB steering wheel.
The ultimate goal is to re-engineer the TE50 Steering column and insert it into the EB.

Your thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated.

Oh and I am new to Fordmod's forum so please be gentle with the flames

Have you thought about the BA Sequential Auto Shifter?

It would be easier to do and quite a few people have now done it to E Series Falcons.
It will work on any 4speed Auto from EA-AU.

To be honest no I haven't, the opportunity to purchase the complete engine trans and steering column happened about 15mins before my original post. and it is sort of a nice to have if I can throw that S/Wheel into the old Piglet.
But a really helpful reply, thanks gives me the option to play around a little if I can get my hands on a BA seq shifter.

what about throwing in an EF/EL dash at the same time? then the AU wheel will bolt onto the EF/EL steering column...

I have access to complete fairlane & or LTD interiors, the prices are very reasonable.
Will have to see what will and what wont fit with out mod's.
Anyways a little bit of cumfort at my time of life is justified.

There are only 2 people I know of who have done this, myself (the 1st) and another guy on another forum to an EB 5L.

Yes I have full BA Sequential shift running, I can put you in touch with the guy who builds the electronics, between myself and him we tested, changed, and got it working right.

dellboy:

thats awesome :) Any idea on how much it set you back? i'm guessing the shifter itself was $$ let alone the electronics :-|

I think its one of those things that would be nice but cost prohibitive :-|

Have a look at my gallery for an idea on effort.

A shifter 2nd hand may not cost too much, but the electronics will cost you around $200

Thanks for the idea's and direction people's, it's muchly appreciated

Oh and just for the record, the Piglet (EB SeriesII Fairmont) is currently running a 347Stroker with Ford Sportsman Series II block, Z303 Heads, B303 Cam, Scat Forged Crank W/Scat Hbeams and JRE notched pistons, FRP Supper Lite alloy Under Drive Pullies, 93 FRP EFI manifold + Plenum + 80mm Throttle Body & EGR + custom built 90mm Mass Air (Still have to design & build suitable cold air induction)
Koni fully adjustable front and rear suspension, S/Low King Springs, 30mm Front + 28mm Rear stablizer bars, the BTR5 trans has been remanufactured and the torque converter swapped out for 3200/3800rpm locking type and finally diff centre rebuilt + beefed up @4.10:1 ratio.
TailShaft being built as I type, and 4pot ARP 330mm cebco front bake upgrade intransit + 298mm rear 2pot upgrade being designed and built here at home(will let you know how it goes)
Interior Orignal neat and tidy - but could use something sweet.
The TE50 220Kwatt engine + 4speed trans was selected as a cost effective solution to combat fuel prices climbing and the chance to drop a sequential shift on the steering wheel was just tooooo good to missout on.
