Could also just be the instrument cluster light - can you hear a relay click every time you press the switch ??

No you cant hear it click, thats why I thought it might be the switch
something else to note, if its not in economy mode, pressing down the button brings up the ECON ligh, then when you let it go, it goes off. do I need ot pull the whole dash off to putt out the switch or just the panel? Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it |

So your car is a column shift auto ???
If it is, sounds like the economy s/w and demister plugs are a*** about - seeing they look similar, this wouldn't be unlikely. Have a look at http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... highlight= as well . . . . . Even if your car is a T bar, because the Econ s/w plug is still there(but not used), they can still be mixed up - you should be able to get to them by pulling the demist s/w and the s/w surround.
