hi guys im having trouble with my ef xr8 it keeps over heating on my i no today was a hot day i was driving stopped at the shops came back and there was a poudle under the car does anyone no what could be wrong with my car

not that i'm an 8 owner, but the 6's are renouned for their overheating, so i know the problems you're having! - frank kindly helped me flush my rad out last week - took it right out of the car, and gave it a good friggen wash out - seems to be running cooler now, although yet to really give it a blast in hot weather - if not, then the rad might be on its way out. besides that, i've also replaced the thermo with a taxi one - opens at 72 instead of 91 deg or something like that - maybe worth a look? not too sure about the differences between the 8's & 6's though i'm afraid...

Check that BOTH fans are working and at high speed..EF fans have low speed and high..Other than clean radiator etc too far advanced doesn't help in hot weather...Check leaks / preesure test...
It wasn't water from a/c ????

nope was coming from the overflow tube how do i do a pressuretest and how can i chech the fans

Was it over full ?? How hi did it read on gauge??
You should here those fans spining quite loud when fully on...
Check cap also????
To pressurise you need to go mech or radiator place and they fit a pump on with guage, obviously if it holds 15 or so Lbs it's o/k...

it was on max onthe tank then leaked heaps um it was on the r

Time for rad clean or think about a new one they are NOT that expensive when you think how important they are..

I have just had a similar bout of overheating.

Firstly or check if it is a 2 core or 3 core radiator you can tell if you can see a centre core in the middle of the U shape end brace or I think plastic end tanks are 2 core.

Also check for junk caught between the radiator and Air conditioner heat exchanger in front of the radiator and a large amount of bent fins on both Heat exchanger and radiator.


As recommended drop the thermostat opening temperature by changing it. also I found that part of the thermostat had grooving stopping smooth operation.

Flush the engine block and check for sideways play in your water pump, if there is ANY sign of play replace it with a good quality waterpump I can recommend Powermax brand made in Japan.

Use a good Coolant like Tectalloy Xtra Cool Gold if you dont use your car in Freezing weather.

If your radiator hoses look even slightly worn replace them and last of all if you are unsure of the radiator caps integrity replace it.
