i know this has been covered before with the XR6 turbo motor, but would a non turbo BA motor be any easier to put into an EF??? i know the motor is a little high and the bonnet will have to be altered... what things would need to be done?? this is all just throwing ideas around at the moment, but if i was to change my EF I6 auto to the BA I6 with a 5 speed manual how difficult would it be?? also does anyone konw how much a BA motor and gearbox sells for?? and does that include the ECU??? or could i just use my EF ECU and piggyback it with a unichip or equivalent??
thanks...

have you thought abt a autransplant?
revs smoother and freer, and will run with current ecu, be cheaper then getting a mech to rebuild your engine as well. just a thought

good au motors can be ahd for around 800 bucks complete. A BA motor will still need custom parts to setup a cable actuated throttle body (although if it still uses the AU intake manifold maybe a AU one would just bolt on) and to make the most of it you'll need a pretty decent computer to run the cams
AU motor wont just bolt in either, slicing K frame/grinding sump will be required

It may be easier into an AU... are they the same bottom end, sump ect? Theres a EF with BA turbo motor running around, its got hole in the bonnet for the front of the rocker cover to poke out...

There are so many intricacies that you would need to work around (FBW throttle and VCT on both cams to mention a few). I believe that the VCT is computer controlled which would require the BA ECU to operate properly. How you would get that to operate effectively and still marry into your EF/EL I have no idea. Having said that, I am lead to believe that it has been done before with an XR6T motor by someone on this or another Forum.

second hand BA XR6T's now sell regularly for under $30k why bother with a transplant?
Just get your motor rebuilt properly if the rest of the cars worth spending that much on |

True, you wouldnt bother putting on into any falcon if you were wanting to run a factory electronics, that would be huge and the cost would be alot more than having the existing motor rebuilt, but, In my case, if it fits under the bonnet, then its worth doing, it would just be a case of swapping the new bare motor ( with serp' accesories) in and making new manifolds. I wouldnt leave the motor stock, and fit forged pistons.
But yeah, if I was doing this with an AU, trading it on an xr6t would be more sensible |

grgr i swaer i will make a sticky on this!!!!
A BA MOTOR WILL NOT FIT INTO PRE BA WITHOUT MAJOR WORK. ie engine acc, throttle body will need to be changed not even sure if new powersteering hoses will be needed also a FULL AFTERMARKET ECU will be required to run the DUAL VCT and the coil on plug ignition system! for the moeny u can spend buy a ba or work the f**k out of your own motor
