anyone know what company (if any) make better coil packs then the standard factory ones? if so how much? and where can i get hold of em???

i recently bought a coil pack from bursons for ~$43, less than 1/2 the price of what a fraud dealer was charging (@ $104+gst).
as for what is better, don't know but the burson unit was made by bosh so it can't be too bad

Hi .
since you got a crook coil pack, why dont you buy six separate coils to do the job. Much better and shorter leads would be required. |

From my reasearch ni to this, there was a diff betwen the EF and AU coil packs, AU ones being supposedly better. Wonder what the part numbers for them are?? as for one coil for each cyl, where would you put them? good idea though,

Yeah hi mate.
Get 6 coils out of an ea system. mount them up on a custom made bracket . Then mount them on the shocker tower side and secure them there. On the exhaust side. The existing coil packs use a common positive which is 12 volts and the ecu swithches the ground. The plug that plugs into the coil pack has four wires. One is the 12 volt permanent supply rail when you switch the ignition on. the other three are , one trigger for 2 coils. One trigger to be used on coil 1 and 6. 2nd trigger to coil 2 and 5 3rd trigger to coil 3 and 4. The coil pack system is a waste spark system, which means that they fire on the compression and exhaust stroke. so therefore you can virtually fire the spark plugs in any firing order. The leads would therefore be redused in lenght. Approx 1 foot per lead. |

hrmm
have been looking around a little bit might just get new standard coils and possibly get the msd dis-4. has anyone used this before or known anyone with it? not a big fan of making up customer brackets and stuff

I see a reason for a mulit coil if your racing at 6-8k rpm constantly and the coils build up heat/resistance. Not saying the idea is bad, just alot of effort for nothing. better off a digital ignition and a good coil( i gots one on my EL), again its overkill for what im driving. I believe the std ignition system is good for 200rwkw easly. what bowsaw said about the AU coil mite be worth looking into tho

Yeah your system is good too.
The difference i get is that the ht leads will last forever and not 20,000 ks. It is a bad design where ford put them to begin with. Its also too close to the crank sensor wiring and could cause corrupt pip signals to the ecu , especially when the ht leads start to break down and you get the christmas tree effect of the night. so i think it was definitely worth the effort. but each to their own i suppose, just thought id share some info with others. |

well after buying a new set of leads and fitting them, found the misfire was still there, luckly i knew someone who could get me one quickly, picked it up and after a bit of fiddling (thanks to ford for designing things so well) got the old coil out and shoved in the new one. fired it up and problem solved!!!!
