Hey there,
I've just got my car back (EL Fairmont running Dual Fuel) from the mechanic after having a head gasket done, new LPG head put on, power steering pump and a few other things (big bucks that I wasn't really keen on having to spend...but oh well) and a problem has now developed running on LPG. (The problem doesn't happen whilst on petrol) Driving at around 50-60km/h then depressing the accelerator a little causes a kind of 'lull' in gas and when it recovers the car will backfire. It only happens in this speed range for instance going from 80-100km/h then planting the foot won't produce the same problem it only seems to happen in this speed range? I'm assuming there needs to be more gas flowing through to the engine but I'm not sure? Any suggestions? Comments? Cheers. |

Is it TickFord gas??? it may require a stepper motor calibration.

if you got a workshop to carry out the repaire take it back and get them to fix it it may just be a gas mixture issue

if the guy says its how your driving hes full of it just make sure that all you leads a cliped into the plugs correctly sometimes if there not it can cause a backfire or take it to a shop with a dyno that can tune it properly

I suggest the following if havent been done in a while.
NGK/Bosch LPG Plugs to be replaced Queensland Spiral Core Ignition Leads or Bosch Spiral Core Leads. Check for ANY vacuum leaks and see if your cars idling rough. Including check your airbox for leaks too. if all still happens and ur not happy with ur mechanic, find someone else as a lot of lpg mechanics are f**k useless |

i'd take it back, yes it is happening when you drive like that, but it should happen when you drive like that. by the way, what's an LPG head? |

Its just a head made out of more resiliant materials for LPG i guess.. He just told me he was putting one of them in instead of the standard EL Head - i'm taking it down their tommorow..i think its a mixer problem personally - but i'll post the outcome tommorow night when i get it back.. someone needs to have a workshop that works on a sunday!

Just replaced and upgraded the intake on the XR and it fixed my backfiring problem completely!!

All fixed! I had a long chat with the mechanic and he had retarded the flow (through the gas tap) to increase economy but lack of performance was the result. After increasing the flow by a few mm the performance is great.

They replace the valve seats with a hardened seats and the replace valves with hardened valve seats.
