Hi all.
Have an EA GL, and have a sound system for it that takes a lot to feed; well in excess of 200 amps. Am wondering if anyone can tell me if installing a 200+ amp alternator will disrupt or affect any of the other electrics in the car. Also if any other mods need doing to the electrical system (other than the "big 3"). Cheers |

why not go for one of those optima yellow top batteries.
the 2IC at work has a huge system in his car with DVD player and PS2 and he can run it for 18 hours he reckons on his blue top. he just won Tassie sound off a few months back. |

upgrade your cable from your battery to the alternator the biggest you can get your hands on... also upgrade the ground to the chassis... then either get a odyessy of optima battery... upgrading the alternator would be a last resort.... considering there a pretty price when you have to get a custom bracket as well to get it to fit... also look into getting your alternator wound up i did that to mine and that helped as well.... $$$ but...
or.... just get a couple of capacitors... i had a 5 farad one in my old car helps a little especially when you got 2 crossfire 1000d amps! |

Not only would you need a custom bracket made, but you would need to convert to a better belt system as the EA belts are FAR too thin and would just slip with the excess load. I tried fitting an EF 110amp alternator (with a temporary bracket) and even that was screeching it's tits off, no matter how tight the belt was. I ended up converting to EF serpentine belts so you would prolly haveto do the same.

Cheers, thanks everyone for your answers.
If I do go the high output alt way, would the ECU play up at all? Eventually, am looking at an engine and brain transplant (AU VCT), but want to install my sounds before then.... |

IS there any alt we can upgrade from AL w/o changing brackets tho?
I know mine wont hold up when the rest of the stuff goes in, battery on way too..
