Hi,

I've got a 97 EL Fairmont, and it's had a rough life. I needs a new bar, and has one new wing mirror (needs one more), theres every panel on the car is scratched. But it's seved me faithfully depsite the abuse I'd given in over the years. So I've decied to restore it back to a clean shiny presentable condition again.

I went down to the panel beaters, exepecting the guys to say something like "Full respray, $4000ish" .... only to have him take one look at the car and say "Oh, it's just not worth it" .... I though, well... maybe not to you, but at least give me a price .... and let me decide if I want to fork out the dollars! ... he continued to look over it, and then commented "Yeah, if I have to write this all up, ya'know ... I dont want to waste anyones time.." I was kinda insulted.

I'll be the first one to admit it needs alot of work, but once you get over that, I still think it's doable, and I think I've got a fair and reasonable budget. I felt like tell'n him "Look, do you want the job or not!" .... but it was obvious he didnt.

Can anyone reccomend a body shop in Melbourne that might have a better attitude ?

I'm not looking for a imaculate show car, just a decent presentable sorta job. I dont even car if it take 'em 4 months to do it! Just a reasonable job, for a reasonable price!

If I dont have any better luck, I might end up doing myself!

I'm located around inner-southern burbs (St Kilda/Windsor). But I dont give a hoot really... If I find sorta people/price, I'll travel to geelong!

I should note: I wanted to avoid those "full re-spray for $600" add's in the local paper. Part of my woes is the paint peeling off the door trims from a dodgy repair when it was a company car.

The guy who did my car couldn't have been better... see my gallery for results. Body kit repaired and fitted, body stripped back and repaired whole lot resprayed in custom colour... $3000.

I caught up with all that I could, and ended up visiting this Damian chap who gave me a great price, and looked legitimet enough to do a reasonable (by my standards) job.

So I cant wait now! Once I get it in and everything, It should be ready next month some time (in plenty of time for christmas!). I'll make sure I post all the pics once its done.
