I have noticed lately that when i start the EF on a cold day i get a grind noise for the enginebay.
Now as it seems it is the initial start after the engine has had time to completely cool down, otherwise starts like normal if even slighty warm. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I was leaning towards the starter motor staying engaged for that little while after the cylinders start firing. Pull it out, grease it up, put it back.

heres how you trace and eliminate one from the other, spray the water pump pulley with WD40 when you start her up first thing in the morning.
If the grinding noise disappear while engine is running then its the bearing, might be a pit of free play. if not, it could be the starter motor as suggested.

Starter Motor I'd say.
Mine was doing the same thing, so I took it to the autosparky and just got a reco put in. Upon further inspection of the f**k one, it was just that. f**k. The effect of not disengaging from the flywheel quick enough meant there were chunks of gear tooth floating around inside it...
