It depends on which seals you have??
If they're all rubber with a retaining ring on the bottom them they should push on by hand but will be firm. If they're the all metal outer with the rubber injected inside then you'll need to tap them down with a hammer. I usually get a socket that sits nicely on the seal without meshing with the rubber seal and spring, then just tap it down lightly with a hammer. In some cases you can tap on the socket with your hand to seat them.. Hope that helps..

When using the hammer it's 'gently tap' more than 'smash'.. As you tap it down you should fell the resistance of the rubber lining being compressed then keep going gently until you feel it bottom out.

ohh stem seals..
IF i was to replace my stem seals, is there a fair chance it'll stop some smoke blowing? IF i had the rocker cover off what else would i need to remove to change them? Am supposed to be replacing rocker cover gasket and painting rocker cover so i'll probably check these out while its off... |
