before you pull dash out, check to see if your losing radiator water first should give a good indication, run the heater on hot with car runnin and observe to see if its leaking and another good indication if the heater cores gone that you will have steam up your windscreen , like a kettle boiling next to a window.
i would be looking at the recirc/fresh air flap the tend to break leaving the flap open all the time. another thing that comes to mind is the air con evavaportor drain pipe clear(inside the engine bay) i can tell you that i just had my evaporator replaced and had the heater core done at the same time for $500 by norms autoair in ringwood, to big of a job for me ,left it to a profesional.

Hey, everyone should do at least ONE heater core job - if for no other reason than to appreciate how good value it is to pay some other poor sucker $500 to do it.
Things to remember: 1. Make sure it IS the heater core before starting the job 2. If you start the job and it turns out NOT to be the heater core, change the bastard anyway. Coz if you don't, the heater core in there WILL blow in about 6 months time. 3. The money you pay for someone else to do it will include them regassing your AC. This alone is worth ~$130. 4. Ring around for quotes - it's a common job in a common car and most radiator places will be able to do it in MUCH less time than you can. Quotes I had ranged from $500 to $900. I ended up going to Natrad in Canberra. 5. If money is tight, you can just bypass the heater core (until winter hits) and save up the $$$. You won't need heating for a few months from now anyway. I hope my message is soaking in over there |
