The handbrake in my XR8 is utterly s**t!! It wont hold on any sort of hill but when i adjust it up tighter, the bloody brakes squeak like a little pig. In car parks i want to turn heads with the sound of the V8, not with s**t brakes that belong to an under-engineered Rice burning piece of crap. I dunno if it has anything to do with the dash 'pull out' handbrake (which is utterly stupid).

The prob is more the shoes for the hand brake in the rear brakes by the sounds of it.
I had a similar prob and found it was fixed when the rear brakes were taken off and the insides(where the handbrake applies) are sanded with sandpaper to clean/roughen it up a bit; then same with the shoes on the handbrake. Refit the brakes and adjust, should help with dragging/squealing noise.

I have the same problem with my EB, I took the car to my local mechanic who adjusted the rear brakes but still the sqealing is there. I have tried that Breakleen spray but it doesn't do much.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with the rear discs needing machined and new pads. I will get that done to my car and see if that helps. EB XR8 - What are the rear discs like on your car?

I am having the same problem. I have had my hand break serviced by ford 6 times in the last 3 years. It has'nt done s**t. I'm getting to the stage where I am pulling my hair out.
Some days its fine, then I park, apply the hand break, come back to the car, get ready to head off, then its squeling and scraping like a stuck pig again. Shoot me now! Put me out of my mysery. Shugg |

i had same problem i just replaced both shoes and adjusted it through the hand brake and she was good for a while then it came back..... i had put the handbrake on slightly of centre.... the noise is coz they are
1.) adjusted to tightly or 2.) shoe is slightly of centre causing it to (rub on the hub)!!! LOL

So when you apply the handbrake it is not the disc pads that are actuated but a set of shoes (i suppose similar to drum brakes) inside the disc???? Is this right or have i misinterpreted something? If i am right, where do you buy the pads and are they hard to fit?

yes it is a shoe inside the hub that presses up against it as u apply the handbrake..... the shoes are around 30-40bux each brand new from memory. pretty simple to change them if needed...
