hi all
just put in my rebuilt engine on the weekend i found an el hybrid block with the big main bearings the vr block and an ef tickford head and cam with a roller master adjustable cam wheel. found a few things on the hybrid block that are different to the ef like the oil feed to the head has two regulator valves to keep oil up in the cam gear when its not running so you dont get rattle in your lifters on start up. an easy mod to any ea-el block did this to a mates ea worked a treat just drill out the oil feed holes with a 10 mm drill but make sure you put some rag in it as not to get metal in the oil galleries the regulator valves are an au part no. also there was no bolt hole for the synchroniser easy fix drill and tap a thread in the correct position and where the alternator bracket bolts on there was an extra rib cast on the block about 40mm long easy get the grinder out and cut it off also the flex plate bolts are shorter as the ef ones bottom out everthing else was straight forward. i used the au metal shim head gasket as well i have only done 400km on it since sat i just had ulp in the tank it went realy well but pinged a bit under load have got pulp in it now and its stopped pinging its got heaps of grunt now much better than the old ef motor that had 260 000km . its much smoother reving and not as harsh as the old ef. once i run it in il play around with the cam timing to get a few more kw out of it. phill young did the machine work and assembled the bottom end and did the head work i assembled the engine together i can highly recomend him to the ford mods boys down here in hobart his machine work is the best i have seen down here |

hey mate does this bloke work for himself or does he have a business, i havent heard much of people down here doing good work at a decent price. i think in a few months i will be looking at getting a bottom end done up for my POS to keep it nice and smooth. thenaks for the valuable info. not a lot of information floating around on things to do to the bottom end of the 6 cyl donk. maybe someone else can have a go and make some documentation!

phil young engine reconditioners he works for him self and works in grove rd in glenorchy where the train lines go over the rd. he builds speed way engines and has done an engine for the old rally car years ago never had a problem with his work he knows his stuff and doesnt like come backs . he is quite cheep to for what he does just ask him about what your needs are and he would tell you if its a waste of time or not i use autocrafts workshop to do the work on my car. they now use phil for there work and have been happy with it as they build race and rally cars |
