Also as said, a once off introduction of ethanol into the fuel system won't cause any appreciable reduction in the life of the fuel system components. I'd be willing to bet that the abuse copped by a reasonable percentage of the cars owned by readers of this site would do far more damage to the engine than a simple once-off introduction of ethanol into the fuel system.

i would think that your best bet is to just empty the tankand get some new fuel and buy an locking fuel cap
or empty the fuel into some gless jars and leave it you will see the water and the fuel and you can save some fuel i do the seccond one for my boat sometimes just to check the filter is not got any water in to |

Dont stuff around with your fuel system. If its got water in there drain the tank. If you cant afford 1 tank of juice how are you going to afford a new pump and a set of injectors. Water is extremely damaging to fuel system components.

let it sit for while and the water "should" sink to the bottom as it is heavier than petrol, then put the petrol back in.. the fuel pump only works for 2-3sec at that stage. i too was under the impression the it wuld just keep pumping until the neccesary pressure would build up but this just just a welcomed side effect
