my car has a bit of damage on the rear left behind passenger door, theres a little bit of a dent/scrape but i want to just paint over it to make it less noticeable. is it a good idea to just paint over where the paint has been scuffed? its a fair scuff (approx 10cm X 15cm) so will painting over it look stupid because the paint may not match exactly? also whats the paint code/info i need to match up the paint for a white AU1 fairmont??
any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! |

Might be better off getting the whole door resprayed? Would match better that way

yeah it would but im trying to do it as cheaply as possible, otherwise i would get the damage fixed up and get it resprayed properly. just seeing if painting/spraying over the mark will be worthwhile as a temporary fix to take away the ugly look it has at the moment

Look under the bonnet at the id plate there. It should have the VIN number and all the cars info on the metal plate along with the code for the colour. If you dont want to pay all that money then get a touch up paint, and paint it one layer at a time. In between each application (give paint a few hours to cure etc) then use a good cut 'n' polish to bring it down. Thats what i have done on a few scratches on my car and it has come up looking friggin good. But then again i have alot of spare time on my hands to do that.

i know silver is a hard one. So are ba colours like acid rush and blueprint. My dads got a blueprint xr6t and it has just had the bonnet replaced and the front bumper resprayed, and they had to spray back to the rear doors to get it to blend.

White is certainly one of the hardest colours to blend in or match on cars, can pick a white car with resprayed parts within 2seconds, very noticable!

just finished it off then, gave it a few coats of this spay & brush touch up stuff from autobahn ($9), although its not professionally done it looks 1000x better then it did and you can only notice its not perfect if you look closely. very happy with that, saved me at least $800
thanks for the replies! |
