Do I need to remove battery, or can I just unplug the fuse?

I would unplug the negative terminal of the battery.
Just be careful with the airbag.

Probably not. But its wise to be careful with it anyway due to the explosive type force when it does go off.
While your changing wheels put it a place no one is going to touch it.
