far out dave, I've heard of that happening before, but only on a commodore the wheel fell off and bounced over some old ladys head (about 400mtrs in the air) and landed in someones swimming pool ..
But glad your alright, Maybe one of your back wheel bearings was letting go, making the nuts on the wheels taking all the presure, are the studs totally stripped out? .. |

Looks very much to me that someone didn't tighten the wheel nuts properly. Seen this before, they spin the nuts up whilst the wheel is off the ground and forget to retighten them when they lower the car. One or two wheel nuts loosen causing very slight vibration, then its a very short time before the nuts fly off leaving one or two to hold everything. a small bump or change of direction and snap no stud and off she goes.
Very lucky it was not a front, u could have rolled the car at speed. Anyhow glad u are ok and the car not too damaged.

I had exactly this happen to me on the go kart, two studs had loosened inside the hub and gave it some vibration, and vooshka, off she came. I was coming second out of 10 with 2 laps to go as well!! EDIT: lost a front wheel as well, suprising how hard it is to turn with only one front wheel |
