On Friday my front left Boston splits starting making cracking noises and cutting out, but Saturday they had died.

I pulled the x-over out and had it checked, all was ok there.

Today my front right splits decided to die. Same thing, started crackling and cutting out and now they're dead.

Over the past few weeks I've noticed that the sound power and level has been slowly declining.

The speakers are running off a JL e4300 4-channel amp.

Anyone have any ideas where I can start looking for problems?

A new amp is outta the question at the moment. Want to try and fix this one.

Sounds like a new plan by the terrorists to rid the world of music. You are their unlucky first victim.

Sorry mate I go no idea.

All connections are right. Fuses are all working fine and power getting thru. No shorts I can see anywhere. Im pretty sure it'll be a problem with either the headunit or the amp. Pretty sure amp but it's gonna take some searching.

i wudda thought he had low batt voltage, putting the amp into stability issues which usually results in dc on the speaker lines, which can do that ^^^ 2 ur speakers, not the most effective way 2 listen 2 music. hehe bl, good to know its fixed tho

You wouldnt believe it but where the wires were run from the amp to the splits, the positive wire on each side had been cut/frayed on a piece of sharp metal running down the side.

Slowly the wires came apart but where they were they occasionally touched resulting in the messed up sound.

Always the simplest problem. Lucky I didnt leave it to the stereo install place or i'd have $250 of new splits and he's just reconnect the wires and still charge me the new speakers.
