wheel and tyre size shouldnt affect ground clearance..... if going to an alternate wheel/tyre size, and it alters your ground clearance significantly, you're probably changing the wheel/tyre combination's rolling diameter by more than your local department of transport will allow.... it'll also throw your speedo readings out as well

youll be fine with superlows 15's and 17's r the same size coz the 17's have lower profile tyres on them. i had superlows on my old au futura and it only scraped on real major slanted driveways. i could get over speed humps as long as i went slow and on the real bad ones took them on the angle.
hey ken b post up some pics of ur xr8 it looks good from what i can see in ur avatar regards from adam

[quote="Slabz"]the overall diameter of your tires shouldn't change when you get bigger rims because you actually get smaller sidewalls on your tires. heres how you work it out:
This is true, but also in hoping that the tyre place sold you the correct sized tyre, and not what they had tonnes of in the shop... We've all seen the stock cars with big 18s, 19s riding around looking like 4wd's |

the overall diameter of your tires shouldn't change when you get bigger rims because you actually get smaller sidewalls on your tires. heres how you work it out:
Tire 1: 185/75R14 Tire 2: 205/65R15 Tire 3: 235/40R18 Format: Width/Profile R Rimsize OD (in inches) = ((Width * 0.Profile) / 25.4) * 2 + Rimsize To convert to cm you just need to multiply by 2.54. Now to show that the above three tires are almost identical OD: Tire 1 OD = ((195 * 0.75) / 25.4) * 2 + 14 = 25.51 Tire 2 OD = ((205 * 0.65) / 25.4) * 2 + 15 = 25.49 Tire 3 OD = ((235 * 0.40) / 25.4) * 2 + 18 = 25.40 so you can see that the biggest difference is 0.11 inches (or 2.79mm) and this much difference is negligable and can be changed by the ammount of tread you have left. so to answer you question, changing rim sizes won't affect your speedo/acceleration/ground clearance. the only thing you need to watch out for is that when you buy some nice big rims that the offset might be different to your current rims so that will put the tire closer to the strut or the wheel arch (close to the strut is bad because they can rub if too close) but fatter tires can also give this problem too. more outset wheels also look better and handle better too. the other thing to watch out for is that if you get lowered springs and lowered shocks (and your shocks are the lower bump stops) then you car will now be able to bounce lower so the body might be able to touch the wheel when your turned and bouncing.

i've made some programs that can help you to work out things like tire size changes and differential changes. they are on my website:

Superlows will be fine. My ea hs superlows, shortened shocks, 15inch rims with 60profile rubber and a full gt kit. I never onced scraped the kit and thats going up rounded gutter etc but my exhaust has a HUGE round muffler smack it the middle of the car that would scrape on some high points like big speed humps. Id deffinately go the superlows though, they look nice. Also i had a copper get under my car and measure it while me and 2 mates were sitting in it and he passed me fine.
