What are common materials for speakers to be made out of?
Just bought a wicked new set of 6" coaxles for the tailgate after shutting the tailgate on a screwdriver and punchering my beloved old factory Pioneers. And i was reading about these and the woofer is made of alimunium and the tweeter is silk? Seems a bit queer... |

i doubt the woofer cone is made out of solid aluminium, possibly a composite with aluminium in it
the tweeter dome will either be silk, plastic or metal.... IMO silk are a much "softer" sound and nicer on your ears

yep....the metal tweeters are a much tinnier sound, i like the soft cone tweeters....much nicer....common woofer material is paper, plastic, and like you said aluminium (or aluminium compounds)

I read the manual and it says Alumium/Copper for the woofer material. The build quality on them looks really nice. I reckon they'll do well for a good back speaker.

Those materials are quite common in speakers.
Often the silk tweeters are coated in a substance. Dynaudio and Morel make tweeters that are coated

. I did the same thing almost, punctured my 6.5" rear speaker when trying to srew it in from the bottom. i was soo p****d off. I fixed it by taping over it on top and bottom (only a tiny hole) but i should really epoxy it up. |
